A Milwaukee mother of three lost her life in a senseless act of violence early Sunday morning.

Police on the scene say Shanika Lee, 43, was caught in the crossfire of a gun fight at 76th and Florist at around 2 a.m.

According to police, Lee was shot and killed when two separate groups of people started arguing and then began shooting at each other outside of a shopping center adjacent to a bar. It is unclear if Lee was leaving the bar and preparing to get in her car.

First responders administered CPR and attempted to revive her.

The family members were too heartbroken to talk about the incident and don’t know very many details.

Her uncle, Richard Henderson, told TODAY’S TMJ4 that the family is also grieving the loss of his granddaughter, who they plan to bury Monday.

Neighbors heard about the incident on social media and say they are frightened about the senseless shooting.

“It's senseless violence, it really is. It hit close to home for me. We live four blocks from here, we own a business in the neighborhood,” Jean Fischer said.

Others who frequent the laundramat in the shopping center say they’re tired of hearing about innocent people losing their lives in Milwaukee.

“The craziness going on with young people these days, it needs to stop. The violence is not good for the economy or for the community. People can't have kids around here. They want to come out and play, yet they can't because of the violence that's going on in Milwaukee. It has to stop. It really needs to stop,” Marquan Kimber said.

No suspects are in custody.
