MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee woman has been charged after allegedly leaving a woman at the scene of a crash to die.

Shiane Holmes, 22, has been charged with hit-and-run resulting in death. The crash happened Sunday, Oct. 9 near the intersection of 51st Street and Auer Avenue.

According to a criminal complaint, Holmes blew a stop sign at a high rate of speed and crashed into another vehicle and a light pole.

The passenger in the front seat, 23-year-old Savanna Scott, was ejected from the vehicle.

In a criminal complaint , Holmes told police that after the collision she got out of her car and saw Scott lying underneath a utility pole on the sidewalk. She said she did not call 911 because she could not find her phone.

Afterward, she said she walked away from the accident scene, caught a cab and went home. She said that she was scared, disoriented and did not know what else to do.

Holmes' mother told police in the complaint that her daughter arrived home late in the morning visibly upset. When her mother asked what was the matter, Holmes said that she thought she had killed Scott in a car accident.

After that, Holmes' mother told police that she brought her daughter to the hospital where she told officials about the accident.

Holmes was subsequently arrested and charged with hit and run resulting in death and knowingly operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
