The Racine County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman for OWI 2nd offense who was driving the wrong way in a closed construction zone.

The Racine County Communications Center received a call of a vehicle with a flat tire driving in a closed construction zone on I-94 south between Highway 20 and 11 Monday.

While on their way to the scene, the RCCC received a call from a construction worker who said the vehicle had now turned around on the interstate and was driving northbound in the southbound lanes.

Once on the scene, deputies discovered the silver sedan to be missing a tire and riding on its rim at approximately 20 mph.

The operator, 29-year-old Courtney Bronaugh of Mount Pleasant, told deputies she was driving home from Milwaukee and was forced to exit the interstate at Highway 20 due to the closure. She said she was trying to get back onto the interstate southbound when "someone" told her to get right back on the adjacent ramp, according to police.

The southbound entrance to the interstate was closed off with numerous barricades. Bronaugh drove around the barricades, striking and causing significant damage to one of them.

The barricade was intended to keep eastbound Highway 20 traffic from entering the interstate.

Bronaugh was arrested for operating while intoxicated 2nd offense, operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration 2nd offense, hit and run property adjacent to highway, fail to obey traffic sign in a work area and reckless driving/endangering safety in a work area.
