A new study by BestVPN.org showed that Wisconsin is ranked as the third worst state for online catfishing.

Anyone that uses social media or dating apps is susceptible to catfishing. This is when someone assumes a fake identity and starts an online relationship with someone to gain their trust. Then, many catfishers abuse that relationship by convincing the person to give them money. All the while, the victim has no idea who they are truly talking to.

Wisconsin was listed pretty high up on the list at No. 3. In 2019, Wisconsin victims lost $96,381 per 100,000 people.

The only states worse than Wisconsin for catfishing are Alaska, which was ranked No. 1, and Nevada which sits at No. 2.
