Wisconsin mother speaks out on the dangers of reckless driving

MILWAUKEE -- A Wisconsin mother is shedding a light on the dangers of reckless driving after one woman’s behavior behind the wheel hospitalized three men including her son.

The crash happened Friday, June 16th near 20th and W. Fond du Lac Avenue.

Joanne Walters described that morning as one she will never forget.

“I can’t even begin to explain it," Joanne Walters said. "It took my breath away."

Nine days ago, her son 34-year-old Josh Walters, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he and two others were hit by a car.

“[It was] out of the blue," Walters said. "He was walking down the street with two coworkers, and this young woman didn’t want to wait for a light."

Police confirmed that 35-year-old Milwaukee woman was speeding down W. Found du Lac Avenue when she tried to pass another car and make it across the intersection before the light turned red.

“Just seeing the scene was a little more than I could handle," Walters said. "Seeing his shoes lying there, that was a little more than I could handle."

The driver’s journey that day ended in a hospital along with three others. According to Walters, her son sustained the most severe injuries and his road to recovery is an uphill battle.

“Both of his legs were shattered, his right arm was broken, his hips, his pelvis, so lots of reconstructive surgery yet to go," Walters said.

According to Walters, her son is a father of three and his youngest child was just 10 days old at the time of the accident. Because the driver of the vehicle was uninsured, the Walters family is facing some financial setbacks.
