MILWAUKEE -- Wisconsin was listed as the twentieth most dangerous state for online dating in a recent report by BackgroundChecks.org.
The website looked at variables in each state including statewide violent crime rates, infection rates for the most common STDs and the frequency of identity theft.
According to a Pew study, online dating for those 18 to 24 years old has nearly tripled in the past four years, from 10 percent in 2013 to 27 percent in 2017. While the stigma associated with online dating has gone down, the dangers of it have increased.
Be extra careful if you use a dating app in Vermont. The state came in at number one on the list. Maine, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming round out the rest of the five most dangerous states for online dating.
