HARTLAND — A Wisconsin girl fighting a rare brain tumor is giving back to the community.
Eight-year-old Emma Mertens from Hartland had a simple request after she was diagnosed earlier this year — letters from people's dogs — and the response was overwhelming. Thousands of people sent her pictures of their dogs along with letters of encouragement. According to the family's GoFundMe page, she has received 75,000 letters from people around the world.
Now Emma is using her love for animals to give back. Her parents have announced the launch of the Emma Loves Dogs Foundation. The foundation will provide financial assistance to organizations such as police K-9 units, animal shelters and rescue groups.
