The Dane County Sheriff's Department is working to determine the circumstances behind a double overdose that occurred with a small child present in a vehicle, according to our sister station WISC-TV.
Deputies were called to the parking lot of a restaurant on County Highway G last week after a witness noticed two adults slumped over inside of a running car. The 911 caller said that he noticed a small child in the back seat, according to police.
Paramedics arrived on scene and were able to successfully treat 24-year-old Kenneth J. Akkerman and his wife Amber, a 26-year-old woman from Friendship, Wisconsin.
The couple was arrested and charged with possession of heroine and operating while intoxicated with a child present. Witnesses felt that the vehicle stood out after observing the brake lights continuously on, police said.
The 2-year-old daughter was turned over to child protective services.
