Hopefully you got to take advantage of the sunshine yesterday and today before snow returns to the forecast late tonight. A large area of low pressure moves into the Midwest, hitting Iowa, Minnesota and western Wisconsin the hardest with 6-8" of snow. We will see significantly lower snowfall amounts as this system moves through on Wednesday, the first flakes arrive well after midnight tonight reaching Milwaukee close to 5am.

The snow will be the steadiest and heaviest during the morning hours, including the morning commute so plan on extra time to get where you are going. My midday temperatures warm close to, if not above freezing in the southeast so there is a good chance to see the snow transition to freezing rain, sleet and even some pure rain showers from Milwaukee and I-43 southeast, this will keep snow totals lower in the southeast, however icing and slippery conditions are expected. Snowfall in Milwaukee will be close to 2-3" with higher snowfall totals in the northwest where it will stay all snow. The wind will be breezy from the east, gusting to 30mph during the day as well.

Wednesday night will be dry with temperatures in the mid-20s under clearing skies. Sunshine and melting will occur on Thursday with seasonal highs, close to freezing. Another day of melting is anticipated for Friday with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-30s.

If Mother Nature hasn't melted a lot of the snow from your roof by Friday evening, try and get a snow rake to clear some of the snow before Saturday since a warmer storm system will bring rain to the area. This rain will be absorbed in the snow, weighing down your roof so the less snow on top, the better. There is the chance for a wintry mix early Saturday morning before warming above freezing and a wintry mix is possible again Saturday night and throughout the day on Sunday before the cold front sweeps through to transition us over to snow.
