WEST ALLIS – A West Allis Police squad car was involved in a serious accident with a pick-up truck Saturday evening, leaving a pedestrian and three others injured.
It happened just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of W. National Avenue and S. 91st Street.
According to West Allis police, the police squad car was traveling eastbound on National Avenue when it collided with a Ford F150 truck that was traveling southbound on 91st Street. The truck rolled onto its roof and onto the sidewalk on the southeast corner of the intersection.
Police say the driver of the truck fled the scene on foot but was located by police a few blocks away. He was later arrested on suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated and Hit and Run.
The truck driver, the passenger and the officer in the squad car all had minor injuries from the crash. Police say a pedestrian was also injured in this crash.
The police squad was on routine patrol at the time of the accident.The police squad was not responding to an emergency call for service at the time of the crash and was not traveling with its lights and/or siren operating.
The Wisconsin State Patrol was requested to complete the motor vehicle accident.
