West Allis Police are investigating an attempted child abduction after a fifth grade girl fought off a middle-aged man on her way to school.

The girl was walking to Horace Mann Elementary School Thursday when a man in an SUV began following her. He asked her where Oklahoma Ave. was and she ignored him. He then exited the vehicle and grabbed her by the wrist.

The child fought back, hitting him with a bag of candy and was able to run to the school.

Police say the suspect is 30-40 years old, average build and around 5'2"-5'5". He was last seen wearing a black beanie.

He was driving a silver or white SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, with tinted windows with larger than normal wheels.
