We Energies wants to remind all homeowners to clear all surrounding snow from their gas meters and appliance vents.
According to our sister station WISC-TV, officials say the ice and snow that Wisconsin has felt in recent weeks can cause substantial damage to gas meters and blocking vents that can trap carbon monoxide inside your home.
In a news release, We Energies says they have gone to customers' homes to help with the removal.
We Energies also has these tips for your safety:
- Keep meters cleared
- Use a brush to gently removes snow
- Be careful not to bury a meter when using a snow thrower or shovel
- Remove icicles that may drip water on a natural gas meter and interfere with flow
