WAUWATOSA -- The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the 32-year-old woman killed in Wauwatosa Monday night after an argument with a man she lived with.

Hearts are heavy tonight, even in places where Lauren Johnson had just a small connection.

Johnson's nephews attend a Lutheran school in the area. The principal says it's a devastating loss for the family - the grandmother also died just before Christmas.

“We have chapel Monday, Wednesday, Friday and so we have special prayers there and so we’ll offer up our prayers at the end of school everyday," said Nathan Kamprath, student.

Back at Johnson's apartment, where police discovered her body in snow below her balcony, neighbors are saddened by what happened.

“She did seem very nice and I do feel very bad for this woman and for her family," said Jeff Ward who lives in the building.

Monday night a neighbor called 911 after hearing Johnson scream. Jeff Ward heard sounds that troubled him as well.

“Mainly I just heard yelling and thumping and it kind of like transferred outside to like that area and I usually keep my blinds shut," said Ward.

Ward later heard two gunshots, then opened his blinds for a better look.

“There was some police tape.  It was going from the brick wall to the beam and over there," said Ward.

Police are not yet releasing the name of Johnson's roommate. He is accused of stabbing an officer and remains hospitalized after being shot twice by police.

Milwaukee Police have taken over the investigation of the police-involved shooting. Charges could come down later this week. The officer who was stabbed is recovering at home.
