WAUWATOSA -- Long-awaited video of a January officer-involved shooting has been released on Election Day.
This video shows a shootout between Wauwatosa Police and a suspect who just ditched a car after a lengthy chase.
Police enhanced the dash camera video to highlight a gun in the suspect's hands before he ditches the stolen car at 85th and Concordia with three passengers still inside.
In the dash camera video, you can see an officer taking cover. At least three rounds hit a squad car. Two officers returned fire and shot the suspect.
A 19-year-old woman in the stolen car was also hit by gunfire.
Police say it took stop sticks and for the stolen car to roll on its rims before Shavell Ball ditched the car and opened fire.
"Last year we had over 200 pursuits with vehicles," said Captain Brian Zalewski, Wauwatosa Police. "It truly highlights the dangers that the officers face and more importantly highlights the uncertainty they have every day with citizens."
Ball plead guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and recklessly endangering safety. He was sentenced in October to 30 years in prison.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office determined that the use of force by the Wauwatosa Police officers in the video was justified.
