Wauwatosa native Mike Maher won his third Grammy Award on Sunday, with his band Snarky Puppy. The band won the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for Culcha Vulcha.
Maher, a Marquette University High School graduate, according to 88.9 Radio Milwaukee, plays trumpet for Snarky Puppy, and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. Maher also heads up his own band called Maz, where he sings and composes.
Snarky Puppy's website describes themselves as "a collective of sorts with as many as 25 members in regular rotation." Pulling artists from across a spectrum of cultural and geographical background, the band says that more than "the cultural diversity of the individual players, the defining characteristic of Snarky Puppy's music is the joy of performed together in the perpetual push to grow creatively."
Snarky Puppy won a Grammy Award in 2014 for Best R&B Performance and in 2015 for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
