A Waukesha West High School student hit another student with her car on Tuesday afternoon.
The Waukesha County's Sheriff's Department says a 15-year old boy was walking east on Hickory Ridge Rd., near Big Bend Rd., when he was struck by a vehicle. Neighbors say the boy lived in the area where the crash occurred.
Investigators say the driver is a 16-year-old girl. Nearby homeowners said the driver of the blue SUV involved in the crash is also regularly seen driving on their street.
The Sheriff's Department has declined to say if the two teens knew each other, but did say they are both students at Waukesha West High School.
"That accident is still under investigation," said spokesperson Jennifer Wallschlaeger. "There are some interviews that need to be done. So we cannot comment on it at this time."
She added the teen boy hit was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Friends say he suffered a concussion, bruised ribs, and broken wrist, but is now back home recovering. The school district said it has no comment, as the incident did not happen on school grounds.
Jeff Fulwiler and his family heard the crash, which happened in front of their house, while they were inside watching TV inside. Fulwiler said his wife and son-in-law ran out to assist the boy while he called 911.
"The windshield was broken on the car, and my son in law said he saw the tire drive over the boy's leg after he hit the windshield, then hit the road," Fulwiler said.
Fulwiler said the female driver of the car stayed on scene and spoke with deputies.
