Waukesha South Principal Ryan Galante has submitted his resignation following a pair of child neglect charges from an incident last Christmas Eve.

According to a criminal complaint, Galante is accused of breaking his one-month-old daughter’s leg, though the complaint notes he was “adamant” he did not drop the child.

Galante reportedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.204 at the time, despite previous claims of being sober the past year.

He told officers he had hidden a bottle of whiskey in the basement and had several shots of alcohol that day.

The School District of Waukesha confirmed Galante’s resignation on Friday and released the following statement:

On October 4, Ryan Galante requested to resign due to pending legal matters and other personal reasons.  This was his choice and his request, and we found a way to support him and make this work for him. Ryan's resignation will be effective October 5.   Ryan is a good person and loyal employee and we wish him the best in his future.

We are working diligently to find a permanent building administrator for this vacancy.

If convicted Galante could face a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison and fines of up to $20,000.
