WAUKESHA, Wis. - Police in Waukesha are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide, a news release from the police department says.

Officers were called just before 2 p.m. by a "hysterical caller who needed police" in the 900 block of Lawndale Ave., Captain Dan Baumann said in the release. When they arrived, they found two adults in the home. Both were already dead.

“When officers arrived they discovered 2 bodies upstairs in the house… We believe that they were shot, we located a handgun on the scene” said Lieutenant Jerry Habanek with the Waukesha Police Department.

Police say the preliminary investigation appears to point to a murder-suicide situation. There is no danger to the public, the news release says.

Neighbors say children were seen being comforted by paramedics shortly after the shooting. Waukesha Police officials aren’t sure if the children were in the home at the time of the shooting, or outside.

The identities of the deceased will not be released at this time, Captain Baumann said.
