MILWAUKEE -- Drivers who use Water Street in downtown Milwaukee will have to find a different way to get around town this week.
Starting on Monday, the City of Milwaukee's Department of Public Works repaving project will shut down Water Street in three phases for three days.

  • Phase 1: The first phase of the project will start on Monday, July 24, 2017 - weather permitting. The project will start on and close the east side of North Water Street north of East Kilbourn Avenue to East Knapp Street (northbound lanes). The west side of North Water Street - southbound lanes - will remain open until approximately 9:00 a.m. and will then close shortly thereafter to traffic.
  • Phase 2: This phase will start on Tuesday, July 25 - weather permitting. Both sides of North Water Street from North Van Buren to North Pleasant streets will be closed to traffic.
  • Phase 3: This final phase will start on Wednesday, July 26 - weather permitting. Both sides of North Water Street from North Pleasant to East Knapp streets will be closed to traffic.

Traffic will be re-routed during all phases of the project, including the Milwaukee County Transit System's Green Line and the #33, #57, and #143 Flyer bus routes.

The traveling public is advised to watch for the detours and add extra travel time when entering and leaving this
neighborhood.
