Wisconsin ranks above average when it comes to the best place to raise a family.
According to personal finance website Wallethub, the Badger State isn't trumping other states in some key categories, but when it comes to affordability - which includes the cost to buy a home - Wisconsin ranks number 3.
"I think the housing here is incredible and affordable," said Dan Kleaveland Kupczak with Shorewest Realtors. "We haven't seen the rapid appreciation some states have, although we are near historic highs in terms of home value. Plus, its risen steadily so the market here is not prone to another bumble. It's good news. We are enjoying steady growth."
The rankings are based on 5 categories:
- Family fun - which includes attractions and weather.
- Health and safety
- Education
- Affordability
- Socioeconomic
The top 3 states for families:
- North Dakota
- New Hampshire
- and Vermont
The worst state to raise a family:
- New Mexico
Overall, Wallethub ranks Wisconsin number 11 on the list.
