NEW BERLIN — VFW Post 5716 wrote a letter to the New Berlin Mayor back in August, and on Tuesday that letter was shared with the New Berlin police and fire departments.

The VFW post wrote the letter in an effort to thank the police and fire departments for all they have done for their communities. On Tuesday, a few VFW post members were able to share that letter with the departments.

"We want all members of the Police and Fire Departments to know that our post is proud of them, we honor them, and we support them 100 percent," the post wrote in their letter.

VFW Post 5716 said their veterans know the meaning of courage, honor, duty, hardship, and sacrifice. They said the members of the police and fire departments know that as well.

"If any member of these fine organizations would ever wonder where the members of VFW Post 5716 stand, they should never look behind them because we will not be there. We will be right beside them shoulder to shoulder. Supporting them in the best manner that each of us can," VFW Post 5716 wrote.

The letter came after the VFW heard individuals voice criticisms and complaints towards police and fire departments. Post 5716 extended their "sincere appreciation and support for the outstanding services our police and fire departments provide to the citizens of New Berlin."
