MILWAUKEE -- Staff at the Blood Center of Wisconsin packed up blood Monday to send to Texas.

There is an urgent need for blood donations as flood waters from Harvey keep rising.

"Blood drives have been canceled in Texas. Donor centers have been closed and that's causing a huge sense of urgency and devastation when it comes to the blood supply in some parts of Texas, said Fay Spano with the Blood Center of Wisconsin."We are flying our blood out tonight, but because we can't fly into Houston, Dallas will be the hub for blood donations."

Tony Wonters is a regular donor at the Blood Center of Wisconsin. He showed up early Monday to donate.

"The thought crossed my mind that there would be a need for blood," Wonters said. "I always give regularly because there always is a need for blood somewhere."

The Blood Center of Wisconsin said the urgent need is for all blood types,  but there is a critical need for O negative and O positive blood.
