
MADISON, Wis. - Officials at the University of Wisconsin have confirmed that someone was able to hack into the university’s main Twitter account Wednesday.

University officials say their Twitter account, @uwmadison, was hacked around 6:30 a.m. and four unauthorized tweets, including a link to a YouTube video, were posted in a span of minutes.
Some of the questionable tweets posted on the account included:
- "lol why go to university when u can just sit at home and fail at life and stuff"
- "why is this @idfc moron hacking everyone can you (explicit) off"
- "dead(explicit) (explicit) thots on god"
The profane tweets remained on the UW Twitter account for several hours and were deleted around 9:30 a.m.
Upon learning of the incident, UW officials say they immediately contacted Twitter support and the account has been fully restored.

A specific cause has not yet been identified, but University Communications says they will undertake a review of its social media account security in the wake of the disruption.
