Two Milwaukee Police Department officers were rear-ended in their squad car while responding to a fire on the city's south side early Wednesday.

Just after 12:30 a.m., the officers were sitting in their vehicle blocking traffic in the 900 block of S. 22nd Street due to a fire when a 40-year-old man struck the officers and fled the scene.

The man was later located and arrested.

The officers were transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
