MADISON, Wis. - Two Dane County deputies are on leave Wednesday after a Madison man shot himself during an eviction, according to a report.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office said deputies were serving a court-ordered eviction at an apartment on West Gorham Street at 7:31 a.m.
City of Madison police were assisting deputies from the sheriff’s office on the eviction. According to the report, when the tenant refused to open the door, deputies forced their way into the apartment. The 57-year-old man shot himself.

Paramedics responded and took the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said. No one else was injured in the incident.
The sheriff’s office said it's treating the suicide shooting as a critical incident, and per that policy, the two deputies involved were placed on administrative leave while Fitchburg and Madison police investigate.
