STEVENS POINT (AP) -- A state agency says two central Wisconsin counties will be quarantined for emerald ash borer after the tree-killing pest was found in Stevens Point.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection said Thursday that Portage and Wood counties will be added to those under quarantine. According to the department, other Wisconsin counties already under quarantine include Dane, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee and Winnebago counties.
Quarantines bar ash wood products and hardwood firewood from being taken to areas that aren't under quarantine.
The department says emerald ash borer was first found in Wisconsin in Ozaukee County in 2008.
