Two arrested after 100+ mph chase in Racine County

RACINE COUNTY — A driver is facing reckless driving charges for leading officers on a chase that at times reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office says shortly after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office were involved in a chase with the driver of a 2001 Chevy Impala northbound on I-94. Officers stopped chasing the driver, who exited I-94 and continued heading westbound on State Highway 11.

Not long after, the Chevy was being reported as driving recklessly on two separate occasions, including blowing a stop sign, and speeding throughout the Villages of Raymond and Yorkville.

A Racine County Sheriff's deputy later spotted the Chevy traveling through the Village of Yorkville. The deputy tried to pull over the driver, but officers say the driver did not yield kept on driving.

Several squad cars from multiple departments were set up along State Highway 20, and spike strips were able to deflate one of the Chevy's tires.

Police say the Chevy continued eastbound on State Highway 20 20 crossing over the grass median into the westbound lanes. It then turned northbound on Oakes Road in the Village of Mt. Pleasant where it continued through the dead end of Oakes Road and drove out into a field. The Chevy got stuck approximately 200 yards from the roadway and a man and a female passenger got out and started running.

Officers were able to take the two, a 36-year-old man and 42-year-old woman both from Milwaukee County, into custody. Both admitted to ingesting heroin/fentanyl and Xanax. There were multiple items of drug paraphernalia found in the Chevy which tested positive for the presence of heroin and cocaine.

The 36-year-old man is being held at the Racine County Jail on the following charges:
- Felony fleeing and eluding
- OWI 3rd offense
- Operating while revoked
- Recklessly endangering safety
- Obstructing/resisting
- Repeat drug offender
- Possession of heroin
- Possession of cocaine
- Possession of schedule IV drug
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Several traffic charges.

The man also had a body only warrant through Milwaukee County for operating while revoked.

The 42-year-old woman is being held at the Racine County Jail on the following charges:
- Obstructing/resisting
- Repeat drug offender
- Possession of heroin
- Possession of cocaine
- Possession of schedule IV drug
- Possession of drug paraphernalia

The woman also had a body only warrant through Milwaukee County for possession of narcotics.
