The Transportation Security Administration found a loaded gun in a carry-on bag at a security checkpoint in Mitchell International Airport Monday morning.
According to a news release, TSA found the 9mm Ruger handgun with seven bullets in a passenger’s carry-on.
TSA Federal Security Director Mark Lendvay said in a statement that this is the third time a gun has been found at Mitchell this year.
The gun was given to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, and the passenger was was interviewed and released. The TSA did not say why the gun was with the passenger in its release.
Guns and ammunition can travel on planes if they are in checked bags, but they are not allowed in carry-on luggage.
