Topgolf is potentially eyeing a location in the Milwaukee area, though it would have a competitor, as a similar golf-related venue called BigShots Golf is set to launch in Franklin, Wisconsin.

According to our partners at the Milwaukee Business Journal, Topgolf has retained a Milwaukee commercial real estate brokerage to check out potential locations.

Topgolf is working toward a goal of opening locations in the top 50 metropolitan areas. Recently, they opened their 38th location and since Milwaukee is the next largest metropolitan statistical area, it could possibly be next.

But even with the potential competition of Topgolf, Mike Zimmerman, a Milwaukee real estate developer, from launching BigShots Golf. Zimmerman said that he had a chance to collaborate with Topgolf, but decided to go forward with BigShots. He and his partner Jason Payne of Peoria, Illinois, had been exploring this project for the past few years.

Zimmerman has big plans for this high-tech golf driving range. BigShots will be located at Zimmerman's Ballpark Commons, a three-story building of climate-controlled suites will overlook a driving range. In the suites, golfers will have access to food and beverage services, including a sit-down restaurant and a store.

Zimmerman is keeping community businesses involved, by featuring Milwaukee-area brands. In addition, a Doppler radar system tracking golf drives will keep track of groups so they can compete in series of games.

Zimmerman is also considering other Wisconsin locations in Waukesha, Madison and Green Bay. BigShots is a newer business with a location in Texas and a second location in construction in Florida.

Plans are not finalized yet, but golf-fans can be on the lookout for the two businesses looking to build in the Milwaukee-area.
