Grubhub released their 'State of the Plate' report Wednesday, detailing the top dining trends to date as we officially mark the halfway point in the year.

After reviewing millions of orders placed on an average day through its platform, Grubhub’s mid-year report checks in on the popular food trends, nationally and regionally, and provides an update on where some of the “trendier” foods actually stand. Check out some key takeaways below:

Becoming vegan is on the rise. The top trends from this past spring 2019 were cauliflower bites and ahi tuna salad.

Working on your summer bod? Barbecue pork buns and truffle parm fries are foretasted as the top two most popular foods this summer.

Fall comfort foods: Pesto pasta and fried okra are foretasted as the top foods this upcoming fall.

Breaking things down by region:

  • Northeast: Harvest bowls are a hit among those in the east.
  • Midwest: The 'Impossible Burger' took first place, with its popularity rising about 326%.
  • West: Meal-goers love their barbecue, with glazed baby back ribs coming in first.
  • South: Italian food is #1with the top order being shrimp linguini alfredo.

Snacks:

We all scream for ice cream. The brownie sundae is the most ordered dessert, with cake batter froyo coming in close.

Whether it's heartier foods to keep you warm in winter or lighter bites for spring as you enter the warmer months, each season has food Grubhub is known for among diners. Who knows what’s to come for summer and fall.
