Christopher Miller, a spokesperson for the IRS, urges taxpayers to choose wisely when choosing a tax preparer. Miller shared helpful resources available on the IRS website that can help taxpayers find qualified preparers.
“You are giving these folks your personal financial information, your social security number and those of your dependents, perhaps your bank account or routing number,” said Miller.
“Ask all the right questions including their qualifications, their history, are they going to be around next week or next year?” he continued. “Some assume because someone has set up shop that they must be legit and that's simply not the case,” he said.
