A popular Thiensville restaurant was heavily damaged by a fire Sunday afternoon.
The Mequon Fire Department said the fire began Sunday afternoon at the cheel. The fire had a "significant head start on the crews."
The fire department says crews were able to salvage paintings and valuables on the first floor before high volume water operations began.
"As community members who had also enjoyed dining at the cheel ourselves, we feel the loss and are saddened that we couldn’t do more to save the building and business," wrote the department on Facebook.
Several neighboring agencies assisted Thiensville Fire in putting out the fire.
