MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a theft at a Water Street bar Saturday night.
The thief didn't just take some cash and run -- but he makes off with the entire safe.
“[He] kinda pokes his head out," Adam Griffin said. "Sees no one’s there and then goes out the back."
Surveillance video shows a man entering the office area of Adam Griffin’s bar, Fire on Water -- but it’s the entire safe he walked out with that left Griffin in disbelief.
“[It was] probably surreal [feeling] as opposed to like mad or anything like that," Griffin said. "[The safe] was supposed to be there and then it wasn't… and uh, what are you going to do."
If you look closely at the surveillance video Griffin shared with TODAY'S TMJ4, you can clearly see the theft play out. Within minutes, the man in the video and his sticky fingers walk off with the bar’s safe, and now Griffin and his bar are out thousands of dollars.
“There’s about $1,800 - $2,200 give or take," he said. “You can see him on the back patio leave into the alley. Apparently, nobody saw him carry a big 60 pound safe.
Griffin said although this is a setback, he still plans to move forward hosting a fundraiser in the near future to help recover the money that was taken from his bar.
