A suspected thief was hit and killed by a car early Friday morning near the corner of 36th Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Police said the 45-year-old man was hit and killed after he ran out onto the street with recycle bins over his head, which he allegedly stole from a nearby Walgreens at around 3 a.m.

The driver, a 26-year-old woman, stayed on the scene after hitting the man. Alcohol was found in her car and she admitted to drinking. She had also been driving on a suspended license.

Police said speed was also a factor in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing, and we’ll update this story when we have new information.
