The Transportation Security Administration is offering temporary applications for its pre-check program at General Mitchell Airport starting Monday, May 8.

Approved applicants get to keep their shoes, belts, and light jackets on at security checkpoints, and can leave their laptops and liquid bags in their carry-ons.

The TSA announced the program in a news release, stating the application center will be open at Mitchell Airport from Monday to Friday this week.

Monday through Wednesday, the hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., reopening at 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.  On Thursday and Friday, the center will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and from noon to 4 p.m.

The enrollment center will be located next to the Center Skybridge behind the Harley Davidson store.

“This is a great opportunity for Milwaukee-area travelers to enroll in TSA’s popular expedited screening program,” said TSA Wisconsin Federal Security Director Mark Lendvay in a news release. “Travelers can make an appointment online by visiting the TSA Pre?® page ontsa.gov, and then must complete their enrollment in-person at the application center. There is also a permanent application center in Milwaukee.”

The application fee is $85—paid by credit card, money order, company check or cashier’s check—which covers a five-year enrollment. Applicants will need to bring proof of citizenship or legal residency.

Successful applicants will get a Known Traveler Number, which can be accessed online about a week after approval. The number can be used when booking airline reservations.
