A Wisconsin student who received her teacher's kidney left Children's Hospital Thursday, just days after her teacher gave her the priceless gift.
"I always thought there was something I could do to make a life better and this is what came my way," donor Jodi Schmidt said.
The smiles on their faces say it all.
Schmidt, a first grade teacher from Oakfield Elementary School in Oakfield, Wis., and her student, 8-year-old Natasha Fuller, saw each other for the first time on May 27 after the lifesaving surgery.
"She looks awesome, she's bright and smiling," Schmidt said.
Schmidt went home Friday, but not before bonding with her new friend.
"We can be kidney twins for life." Schmidt said to Natasha.
"Yeah, I can say that," Natasha said.
On Thursday, little Natasha posed for pictures with nurses before saying goodbye.
Natasha's parents released a statement saying they're "thrilled Tasha is going home and she still has some healing."
The teacher and student now have a new greeting when they meet in the school hallways.
"I think I might ask you how are our kidneys doing," Schmidt said to Natasha.
"I think I would say they're doing good," Natasha said.
