Target temporarily closes two Milwaukee stores, others nationwide amid protests

UPDATE: The two Target stores have now re-opened.

Target announced that it was closing two stores in Milwaukee, among several closures of stores nationwide amid protests.

The stores will close temporarily.

"We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing communities across the country," said the company in a statement. "At this time, we have made the decision to close a number of our stores. We anticipate most stores will be closed temporarily."

The locations closed in Milwaukee include:

"Our focus will remain on our team members’ safety and helping our community heal," said the company.

According to the company, employees at affected stores will be paid up to 14 scheduled hours during the closures and will also be able to work at other nearby locations.
