ELKHART LAKE — The Elkhart Lake Police Department issued a warning on their Facebook Friday saying the swimmers itch parasite may be present in the lake.
The department is advising that anyone who swims in the lake towel dry immediately after. It's also recommended that you shower when you return home.
Swimmers itch can cause itchy small red bumps that can turn into blisters. The CDC recommends not itching, though, because it can lead to infection.
Additionally, the longer you stay in the water, the better chance you have of having a more severe case of the parasite. Most people do not need medical attention due to the itch, but there are some home remedies that could help.
Such remedies include a cold compress, an Epsom salt bath, or a baking soda paste.
