An Appleton woman avoided getting hit by a train early Saturday morning after authorities say she parked her car on a railroad track.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the intoxicated woman parked her Volkswagon Beetle on the tracks near Hillcrest Road and Weiss Street in the Town of Addison at about 2:45 a.m.

Authorities say the woman avoided being hit after a southbound train stopped at a nearby lumber yard and the conductor noticed the car parked on the tracks.

The woman reportedly told investigators that she was driving home from Milwaukee and did not know why her car was on the railroad tracks or where she was.

She was arrested and charged with  OWI first offense and registered a BAC of .21, according to the Sheriff's Office.
