A Milwaukee man has been charged with murder for a shooting death last fall, as well as for the attempted murder of two witnesses to the original crime.

Michael Cooper is suspected of shooting and killing Michael Patton in October near Mike’s Place Tavern on Silver Spring Drive. Patton was shot three times and his face and head were badly beaten.

According to court records, Cooper fled the scene before police arrived. However, Milwaukee police said they were able to match DNA at the scene to Cooper.

Cooper is also accused of attempting to murder two witnesses to the crime weeks later, shooting them in the head. Both survived the attack, however, a bullet is still lodged inside one of their heads.

Along with the murder and attempted murder, Cooper is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
