Police have arrested a man after reports of possible shots fired near Marquette University Monday afternoon.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said on the scene that police had a suspect in custody from the nearby senior apartments near 19th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The suspect is believed to have mental issues.

"Marquette University is going to get a search warrant to see if there is one to be recovered," Flynn said. "The subject has some mental issues he is grappling with."

A safety alert went out to students that claimed gunshots were fired, however, police do not believe that was the case. Marquette University Police will conduct a follow-up investigation
