SUN PRAIRIE -- Police have removed a suburban Madison high school student from class after he allegedly brought a gun to school.

Sun Prairie High School officials said police were alerted around 2 p.m. on Thursday that a student had posted a picture of a gun on social media with a statement that he was going to make history.

School officials and police found the student in class and escorted him to the office, where they say they found an unloaded gun and ammunition in his backpack.

Both the school and police are investigating.
