Ascension St. Joseph Hospital, at 5000 W. Chambers Street, opened a new emergency department for pregnant women recently.
The new department houses four beds, known as the OB Emergency Department, and aims to help women who experience difficulties with their pregnancies in order to address maternal health disparities.
"This new department at Ascension St. Joseph can help be a step forward toward reducing racial health disparities that exist in Milwaukee,” said 7th District Alderman Khalif Rainey. “We need all the resources possible to help make sure we have healthy mothers during and after pregnancy and combat infant mortality. I want to thank Ascension St. Joseph for making this investment.”
The as the OB Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with four full-time obstetricians along with specialists from the Obstetrics Hospitalist Group.
