Police stopped a wrong-way driver at the Ozaukee and Milwaukee County line early Monday morning.

The blue Honda Civic was reportedly going at a high rate of speed in the northbound direction in the southbound lanes of I-43 shortly before 3 a.m.

Authorities stopped the driver just north of Mequon Road, about 1 mile south of Highway C.

No injuries were reported and there were no incidents involving other vehicles.

Brian DeNeve with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation says once his Control Room operators are alerted about a wrong way driver they update the public.

“We’re always trying to possibly mitigate it as much as possible through education, through our dynamic messaging signs and of course just detecting it initially," DeNeve said.

Traffic is flowing normally in the area.

“We do think it’s an ongoing safety issue," DeNeve said.
