SHEBOYGAN COUNTY -- Sheboygan County has thousands of open jobs with nobody to fill them.

Now they're branding the area "Someplace Better," hoping to attract and keep more people for jobs.

Major companies like Bemis, Kohler, Sargento and Aurora Health Care teamed up with the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce and the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation to announce the initiative. The local companies all have jobs available.

Bemis said they'll hire more than 50 people in 2016; Kohler has 337 openings right now and plans to hire about 500 people this year. Sargento has more than 80 jobs open now, with plans to hire more than 300 in this year. Aurora Health Care said they hire more than 100 people every year.

The problem is, they can't find people to fill them. The group said one issue is how people view Wisconsin. They said 'rural' and 'cold' stand in the way of people taking jobs, some of which pay about $30,000 minimum.

Some are skilled jobs, which the companies and organizations have teamed-up with local schools to get more people those skills.
