The family of a little 2-year-old Urban "Awesome" Kuptz had a tough few weeks.
After a sudden fever and illness, a staph infection destroyed Urban's heart valve and left his parents in shock.
"My stomach kind of hit the floor, you never expect that," mother Amber Kuptz said.
"It's just earth shattering," father Chris Kuptz said.
This week their little boy underwent heart surgery at Children's Hospital to replace the valve.
"They had to go in and remove the heart valve because the infection had just destroyed it," Amber said.
And now, Chris, a police officer, looks up to his own child.
"This kid's my hero, ...the doctors the surgeons, it's just incredible! Just seeing what he's going through that at such a young age," Chris said.
On Friday, July 1 a fundraiser was held for the family's medical bills. It was "Urban Awesome Day" at Sobelman's Pub and Grill. $1 from each burger and sandwich that was sold was donated to the family. The event drew law enforcement and supporters from all over Milwaukee.
"They were eating hospital food for five or six days, I surprised them with a burger. I got to know them on Facebook and we just decided to do it," Owner Dave Sobelman said.
Now the family knows they won't face this journey alone.
