STURTEVANT, Wis. — Racine County Sheriff's Office officials tell TMJ4 News that no fatalities have been reported after a small plane crashed while taking off at Sylvania Airport Tuesday morning.

According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, the pilot, a 79-year-old Waterford man, was the sole occupant of the airplane. He was treated at the scene and taken to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life.

Officials with the sheriff's office say the plane was taking off and got caught in a wind gust. The airplane's wing then struck the fuel tanker truck, which spun the plane around, and cause the airplane to crash head-on into a fuel tanker truck.

Upon arrival, deputies observed the single engine Cessna airplane with significant front-end damage. The airplane was leaking fuel, but there were no flames or smoke.

Officials said the fuel truck was not damaged, adding the truck posed no danger to the people around it.

Airport officials said that they had the plane at Sylvania for about a year. Airport officials said this type of crash is uncommon.

Sylvania Airport is located in Sturtevant west of the City of Racine.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
