During most of the funeral procession Wednesday evening for fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Michalski, the atmosphere was quiet and somber.

But as the procession came to an end at the Wisconsin Memorial Park, each squad car activated its sirens, a final tribute to a fallen brother.

As sirens went off, the crowd began to applaud and cheer. Many people called out thanks to each individual department as they drove past.

Law enforcement agencies from all over the state and even the country participated in the procession.

Michalski died July 25 after he was ambushed and shot by a man wanted on several criminal charges.

The procession followed a church service in Oak Creek. At the cemetery, the family held a private service.

The squad cars in the procession did one loop through the cemetery, and then left to head back to their communities, and back to the citizens they serve.
