GRAFTON -- Shots were fired inside of the Hampton Inn in Grafton Wednesday night, killing a man, and prompting an evacuation according to a written statement from Grafton Police Chief Charles Wenten.
Police said the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers from Grafton and Saukville responded to the hotel located on the 2600 block of Washington Street around 6:30 p.m., according to Chief Wenten.
Grafton police said they located the suspect at the hotel after tracking his cellular telephone location.
Saukville police tell TODAY’S TMJ4 that the incident started around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday in their jurisdiction.
The Saukville Police Department received a call regarding a burglary and subsequent false imprisonment of a female victim, according to a written statement from Saukville police.
“At that time, officers had reason to believe that a male suspect broke into the female victim's home and removed her at gunpoint and forced her to drive him around several area jurisdictions,” Saukville police said.
The female victim was released unharmed by the suspect and contacted police, who then located the suspect at the Grafton Hampton Inn where he shot and killed himself, according to police who noted the hotel was fully booked with guests.
Law enforcement officials in Grafton tell TODAY'S TMJ4 that the suspect was also involved in other incidents in Washington County, but could not elaborate at this time.
The incident has impacted hotel guests, area residents, and businesses.
During an interview with TODAY'S TMJ4, the manager of the adjacent Water Street Brewery said that his business has suffered a substantial loss Wednesday night due to the road being closed to his restaurant, as a result of the incident.
Grafton police say they did not fire their weapons.
