UPDATE 5/20 10:53 a.m. -- Michele McKinney has been found.

SHEBOYGAN -- Police in Sheboygan continue to search for 9-year old Michele McKinney.

The young girl has been missing since roughly 6:30 Thursday evening, when police say she became upset and left a group home, where she'd been staying, near 8th and Kentucky.

Friday morning, teams from the Sheboygan Police Department and Sheboygan Fire Department could be seen knocking on doors in the area where McKinney was last seen.

"We've been actively searching since this report came in," Sheboygan Police Captain Kurt Brasser. "We have patrol officers from two shifts who are doing canvasses in the area, talking with citizens and notifying them to be on the lookout for this child."

Brasser estimated more than 12 patrol officers are searching for McKinney, along with police investigators, firefighters and employees of the city's Public Works and Transit departments.

Neighbors noticed the heavy police presence.

"There were a lot of officers around the neighborhood and stuff," said Corey Goodlow, who lives nearby. "I was confused as to why. I hope they find (McKinney), and I hope she's OK.

Brasser said those searching for the girl are hoping family members, friends, or even a civilian who spotted her, can help point them in the right direction.

"It's urgent because of her age and since she's been gone since last night," Brasser said. "It's a priority right now and we have a lot of resources assigned to it."

Anyone with information on McKinney's whereabouts is asked to call Sheboygan Police at 920-459-3333.
